HDR reference monitor for extreme contrasts with impressive detail reproduction
HDR (High Dynamic Range) refers to video material with a high dynamic range that appears more true to how the human eye perceives the world than conventional videos (SDR). HDR technology makes it possible to display extreme contrasts with a maximum level of detail without experiencing burn-out in highlights or the loss of shadows in your drawing or picture.
The ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3145 achieves a (typical) brightness of 1000 cd/m2. It is also the first LCD monitor available anywhere to offer a (typical) contrast ratio of 1.000.000:1. This makes the reference model ideally suited for colour grading HDR content.
EIZO drew on the natural phenomenon of solar prominences for inspiration in naming the monitor. These extremely bright flows of matter contrast sharply with the sheer darkness of space.
LCD technology makes due without an ABL and local dimming.
The ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3145 does not require an Auto Brightness Limiter (ABL) or local dimming, thanks to its new dual-layer LCD panel.
An ABL (Auto Brightness Limiter) can currently be found in HDR monitors equipped with OLED panels. The ABL acts to limit the maximum luminance of individual pixels in extremely bright areas of the screen in order to prevent damage to the panel. Reducing the brightness has the effect of producing a duller image, however. Local Dimming is a feature that dims individual segments of a monitor’s backlight system. Since dimming is only possible on relatively large areas of the screen, display errors and halo effects occur frequently, making it much more difficult to accurately assess the relevant areas of the image.
The ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3145’s dual-layer LCD panel allows the very bright backlighting (1000 cd/m2) to be extremely effectively covered, rendering both the ABL and local dimming unnecessary. This enables the ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3145 to deliver an unmatched level of precision and contrast when displaying images
Thanks to the HLG*- and PQ gamma curves, the ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3145 meets the relevant standards for professional HDR postproduction. It is also able to work with a wide range of formats, including 10-bit 4:2:2 at 50/60p via HDMI and 10-bit 4:4:4 at 50/60p via DisplayPort. 98%** of the DCI-P3 gamut is covered, and absolutely smooth colour gradations are also guaranteed in 10-bit mode***, thanks to the 10-bit native panel and 24-bit LUT. A light protection shield is included standard with all CG series ColorEdge monitors.
HDR gamma curves for SDR ColorEdge monitors
In addition to the new ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3145, two gamma curves are also available for the ColorEdge CG318-4K, CG248-4K, CG277 and CG247X models: The HLG and PQ gamma curves enable the user to edit HDR content on SDR monitors. The two gamma curves are available on request from EIZO.
